react-snow

Since 2018, it has snowed at Moved most winters: soft flakes drift down the screen over the holidays, settle along the bottom, and melt, with a “Let it snow” switch for anyone who would rather work without weather. For years that snow was Scott Schiller’s 2003 DHTML Snowstorm. react-snow rebuilds it from scratch as a small TypeScript library: every flake drawn on one canvas, the same speed on every screen, flakes that sway, land, and melt, custom SVG and PNG shapes, and a React hook and component on top.

Every option can be tried live in the playground, and releases install straight from GitHub. Like Ethereal, it was built entirely with Claude Code; I never touched the code by hand. The whole story, with snow falling live, is in this blog entry.
